The five elements

Each organ with their corresponding element have unique characteristics and functions that is essential to our wellbeing. When all five organs work together in balanced harmony, the “+” and “-” meet and the body system becomes whole and fully functioning.

Heart-Fire

The Heart governs the circulatory system and the nervous system.

The Heart energy sparks when “+” and “-” meet. It is attractive and because people love beautiful and gorgeous things, people fall madly in love with it.

The season is summer, and like the sun/fire, it brightens the space around them. But also like fire, it desires to consume and burn everything around it, including the person who has it.

Fire energy looks fantastic on the outside, but inside there’s a struggle. It is very greedy, and it only goes up. Talented in an artistic way, fire nature appears passionate, energetic, and intuitive. It can also be explosive and over-heated, destroying the cooling system. However, if the cooling system works properly, it will have a different outcome.

Kidney-Water

Kidney helps and regulates growth, and provides energies to all organs. It holds the life energy. The Kidney supports bones, bone marrow, hearing, hormones, and reproductive organs and genitals.

The Kidney energy pushes away with “+” and “-”. Its tendency is to spread outward, just as water flows over the land and soaks the earth.

Its season is winter and it is damp, preparing for the coming of spring. It is this energy that allows the spring life to grow.

This energy also holds, representing life and death, and softening of things. It is full of knowledge, making for a scientific mind that researches and improves, bringing positive ideas to the table. It has a way of smoothing things out in a softening way. And because it is damp, it can create mold in the systems if not properly circulated.

It is dark, hidden from the light

Liver-Wood

It holds blood and manages moisture metabolism, eyes, muscles, tendons, joints, fingernails and toenails.

When Liver energy has “+” and “-” in harmony, it becomes competitive and seeks improvement and growth. The wood nature likes prestige and is soft, kind, and warm when it is harmonized.

The Liver energy is generally tall, slender, and gentle. It symbolizes spring when everything comes to life. The spring weather is nice, warm, soft, and gentle.

Liver and Gallbladder is like a sprout of new growth. When a part is used, it will grow back, constantly replenishing itself. This person’s Liver system will continue to heal.

It sprouts and calmly grows tall in agile upward movement.

Lung-Metal

The Lungs control the breath, the original energy, and all energies from food. It also governs the skin, nose, respiratory system, and the motor nervous system. It is weak against cold and heat.

The Lung energy pulls with “+” and “-”, a strong contracting force. It is hard, forceful, and powerful.

When combined with the Heart/Fire energy, it exercises fair judgement. With the strength and softness coexisting, it knows what to do and what not to do. It understands the dark side of human nature as well as its weaknesses, coming to people’s aid when needed. Principle is more important than money for this energy and can make people around them nervous.

Cool, fair, disciplined, and time of ripening and harvest

Stomach-Earth

The Stomach produces and absorbs all the nutrients the body needs, and give rise to the source that creates life.

This energy connects “+” and “-”, and in doing so, creates harmony and unity. It has a tendency to hold and embrace all things.

The stomach sits at the center, and the four seasons circle around it, making all things grow. Through its changes come the finished product. We plant, grow and then harvest. This is what the earth energy person provides, with the help of four other elements. It makes the body a bit dull because the earth energy draws everything in, embracing it all in a chaotic way.

It is the center that gathers, where all things are transformed and allowed to grow.
